Meet Your Councillors – Roy Clare

This month, we would like to introduce you to …

Roy Clare
Parish Councillor

Roy was once in the navy and has been a museum director and is a charity trustee. He and his wife Rev Sarah made Tollesbury their home more than twenty five years ago. He was one of the many volunteers in TollsVols during the Covid pandemic. He appreciated the support and encouragement from Simon Plater as Chair, all the Parish Councillors and Michelle Curtis as Clerk during that period, and so once the lockdowns ended in 2020 he happily joined the team to lend a hand. Apart from a few months’ absence in 2025, he has been there ever since and greatly enjoys the collaborative vibe.

As can be guessed from his pic, he is often afloat and enjoys sailing. So he chairs the Hard committee that deals with matters on the waterfront! He is also a member of the Finance and Policy committee where he contributes to discussions about risks, upkeep, improvements and expenditure, and helps our Parish Council to obtain best value for the lowest possible Precept. He takes a keen interest in local planning issues, not least as a member of the Neighbourhood Plan Working Group.

Roy is the Parish Council’s representative Trustee on Tailler Charity, founded by a local man, Robert Tailler, in 1652 – the charity is still working to assist residents of the village as the original Legacy intended.

Roy says: “it is a pleasure to be a Parish Councillor in Tollesbury, where we have a wise Chair, an expert Clerk and a diverse group of talented Councillors – if you spot an issue let us know and we’ll do our best to help resolve things.”
